Fun family afternoon at Wandlebury: Saturday 17 January: 2.30am to 5.30pm:

On Saturday 17 January visit Wandlebury Country Park and join Cambridge Past, Present & Future and Cambridge Storytellers for an afternoon packed full of family-fun. Take in the wonders of the park in winter. Enjoy a guided walk; learn about orchards and their upkeep; test your orienteering skills; and have a go at the ancient custom of wassailing. Be captivated by folklore stories; dress an orchard tree and follow all this with hearty drinks and toasting marshmallows around an open fire.

Guided walk in the orchard and orienteering – 2.30pm:

Find out more about traditional orchards, their management and restoration in a guided walk whilst children can learn the skill of orienteering in a session that will show them the wonder of the country park in winter. Meet at the Inner Ring near CambridgePPF offices/WCs. 

Wassailing, story-telling and dress a tree in the orchard – 3.30pm:

Be enthralled by the compelling story-telling of Sylvia Lowe, of Cambridge Storytellers, who will make the imagination come alive through folklore. Listen to a short introduction to wassailing – the ancient custom of reciting incantations and singing to trees to promote a good harvest for the coming year. Try your hand at decorating a tree. Meet at the Inner Ring near CambridgePPF offices/WCs.

Warm drinks around an open fire – 4.30pm:

Enjoy a heart-warming drink around an open fire as the daylight fades. Don’t forget to bring a supply of marshmallows to toast and a torch to help you find your way around. Meet at the Stable Rooms (Donkey Paddock). 

NB: Adults £6, children £3 (members £5 or £2). Booking is essential so please book early to avoid disappointment.

Directions: Wandlebury Country Park is on the A1307, 2.5km south of the Addenbrooke’s roundabout. Parking is available on site and costs £3 per vehicle. Or take the citiplus 13/13a bus(Cambridge to Haverhill) with bus stop at the top of Gog Magog Hills. Amplecycle parking is also available.
