This summer Cambridge Past, Present & Future (CambridgePPF) has put together another packed programme of activities to keep children busy over the six-week school holiday. The charity’s summer holiday programme starts on Tuesday 29 July and offers a wide variety of nature activity sessions – all of which will take place at Wandlebury Country Park.

This year there will be an event taking place most Tuesdays and Wednesdays. There will be morning events on offer that give parents, carers, grandparents the chance to spend some quality time with their children. Each event lasts for two and a half hours and is led by the charity’s experienced team who regularly help small groups explore the park while looking at different aspects of nature. Then it’s back to the Stable Rooms Education Centre for snack time and related craft activities.

For the first time, CambridgePPF is also staging two ‘unaccompanied’ full day events that are suitable for children aged eight to thirteen years old. Parents can drop children off at these special workshops where they’ll spend the day in the care of the charity’s experienced team. One event will focus on giving children an insight into bushcraft skills. The other will look at the animals that call Wandlebury home. Each event will run from 10am to 4pm. Full details are available below.

Drop your children (aged 8 to 13 years old) off with the CambridgePPF team for the day and they’ll learn a range of outdoor skills. The team will teach them basic bushcraft techniques using natural materials. Pack the kids up with lunch and they can join the team to eat it around a campfire. There will also be craft and art activities. Booking is essential. Places cost £25 per child (CambridgePPF members only pay £20). To book click here.

FULL DAY SESSION: Animal Homes: Thursday 21 August – 10.00am to 4.00pm

This summer, children aged six to thirteen years old can be dropped off to spend the day with the charity’s knowledgeable team and take part in animal-related activities. Spend the morning out and about looking for animal clues and signs. Then, after lunch, return to the Stable Rooms Education Centre to make your own animal home or insect hotel to take away. Bees, wasps and hornets: Wednesday 27 August – 10am to 12:30pm

Our buzzy two-winged friends can get a bad reputation at this time of year – particularly with children who are scared of the noises they make and worried about getting stung. This event offers children the chance to see a different side to bees, wasps and hornets. Alongside the CambridgePPF team they’ll learn about the different species that exist, where they live and what they like to eat. They’ll also get to make a pretty bookmark, see inside an observation hive and get busy like bees with art and craft activities back at the Stable Rooms Education Centre! This is a more advanced session for children aged eight years and above. Booking is essential. Places cost £6.50 per child (CambridgePPF members only pay £5.00), adults free. To book click here.
