Wandlebury Country Park

On the Gog Magog Hills just south of Cambridge, Wandlebury is a welcome retreat for walkers and nature lovers. Leper Chapel

Events throughout the year
The Chapel of St Mary Magdalene, known as the Leper Chapel, dates back to the 12th century and is thought to be the oldest complete building in Cambridge. This Grade I Listed Building has a fascinating and well documented history. It was originally built as part of an isolation hospital for lepers, and has survived the centuries because of its association with Stourbridge Fair. Read more

Bourn Mill

Summer Sunday events
This remarkable building, one of the oldest surviving windmills in the country, was given to the Society in 1932. It is now a scheduled ancient monument and has undergone many repairs and rebuilds during its lifetime. It has even been the inspiration for much of the work of one of our most eminent contemporary architects, Lord Foster, one of our most eminent contemporary architects gained some inspiration from it, preparing plans of the building whilst a student in Cambridge. Hinxton Mill has a very special and timeless quality. All the old photographs and stories about the mill show that this was always a hard-working building and though times must have been tough in the past, we think it has never looked so wonderful as it does in the 21st century. Venue hire

Host a children’s birthday party at Wandlebury and we’ll give you sole use of our Stable Rooms – a great space for laying out food and indoor games if it’s raining. You’ll also have exclusive access to the adjacent paddock – a large area where children can run around safely and play informal games. If you would like to discuss including an activity please get in touch – examples which may be possible include:

  • Treasure and scavenger hunts
  • Pond dipping
  • Crafts
  • Orienteering.

All these are subject to availability of a member of the team.

With a paddock big enough for a marquee, Wandlebury is also the perfect place to celebrate ‘big’ birthdays and important anniversaries. Get in touch to find out more and discuss pricing. Members receive reduced prices.


Wandlebury is a beautiful location for couples planning their wedding. We do not have a wedding venue licence but you are welcome to hold an informal ceremony and reception on site. Our stable rooms and adjoining paddock provide a lovely informal setting for a marquee; the surrounding parkland is a stunning backdrop for photos of the happy couple and their guests. In the past, couples have put up marquees, yurts, tipis and tents. The catering has been varied too from a full wedding breakfast to hog roasts and simple picnics. Prices can start from around £1350 but each wedding is costed on an individual basis. This figure includes hiring the stable rooms and paddock and includes time for setting up the day before / clearing away the day after.


All year round at Wandlebury, we have two BBQ areas that you can rent out near to the Games Field each with their own special atmosphere. Both are the perfect place for sizzling sausages and burning burgers. Our BBQs, which must be booked in advance, can be hired from either 10am to 2pm, or 3pm to 7pm. Prices start from £30 for CambridgePPF members. All we ask is that you bring your own tools, fuel and food, leave the BBQ in a clean condition; and take all your rubbish away with you. Our Warden team will ensure there is a picnic table nearby for your use and you can even put up a small gazebo if the weather’s not playing ball (bigger tents need permission). To minimise fire risk BBQs are not allowed anywhere elsewhere on site. Book early to avoid disappointment and ensure that you and your guests have lots of room to spread out and enjoy eating al fresco.

Corporate events

Do you need a quiet location away from the office for a meeting, workshop or brainstorm? Our Stable Rooms at Wandlebury can accommodate groups of up to 40 adults conference style or 20 people boardroom layout.

Lots of local companies also use our properties for team building events, staff picnics and parties. Costs vary depending on requirements and the property you want to host your event at.

Photo shoots and filming

Our properties provide the ideal backdrop for commercial photo shoots and the creation of films and videos. If you are looking for a historic building or a countryside setting for a creative project you are working on, we’d be delighted to discuss your requirements and make suggestions about the best locations at our individual sites.

Art exhibitions

The Leper Chapel is a magical space for art exhibitions and installations. Located just off Newmarket Road in Cambridge the building is an oasis of tranquillity along a busy thoroughfare. Regularly used by a wide range of artists and students, it provides an atmospheric location for a special event.


Music concerts, theatre performances, poetry and story telling events

Wandlebury Country Park and The Leper Chapel lend themselves wonderfully as venues for outdoor music concerts, theatrical performances and other cultural events. In the spring and summer Wandlebury is a great for staging concerts and plays – providing plenty of room for audiences to spread out on blankets and soak up some culture while enjoying a picnic. Wandlebury is also a magnificent venue for story telling. In the past, professional narrators have gathered groups of children together in the park to recount traditional tales of flower fairies and other meadow or woodland creatures. As the nights draw in, the Leper Chapel provides an atmospheric venue for ghost tales and stories from the past. Autumn and winter sees a number of events held in the shadows of the building – which lit by candlelight add drama, interest and excitement to performances of all kinds.
