CambridgePPF owns and cares for a number of historic buildings and green spaces in and around Cambridge – all of which are open for the general public to enjoy.

Visit one of our parks to experience the very best of the British countryside. They are the perfect place to roam, whatever the weather. Take in breath taking views across Cambridgeshire, participate in nature events and activity days, or simply get together with friends and family for a picnic and some fresh air.

Delve into the past with a trip to one of our buildings which are bursting with local history. These fascinating architectural gems serve as a reminder of the city’s past and the wider area’s agricultural heritage. Watch out for special open days and events.

Wandlebury Country Park

On the Gog Magog Hills just south of Cambridge, Wandlebury is a welcome retreat for walkers and nature lovers. With 110 acres (40 ha) of beautiful woods and chalk grassland, the remains of a 5th Century BC Iron Age Hill Fort (a Scheduled Ancient Monument), walks of over some 8 miles (12 km) of meandering footpaths - Wandlebury offers something for everyone - a great experience for all ages! Coton Countryside Reserve

Covering more than 300 acres (120 hectares) of pasture and agricultural land to the west of Cambridge, Coton Countryside Reserve offers quiet recreational opportunities for local people within a working farm environment. Leper Chapel

Events throughout the year
The Chapel of St Mary Magdalene, known as the Leper Chapel, dates back to the 12th century and is thought to be the oldest complete building in Cambridge. This Grade I Listed Building has a fascinating and well documented history. It was originally built as part of an isolation hospital for lepers, and has survived the centuries because of its association with Stourbridge Fair. Read more

Bourn Mill

Summer Sunday events
This remarkable building, one of the oldest surviving windmills in the country, was given to the Society in 1932. It is now a scheduled ancient monument and has undergone many repairs and rebuilds during its lifetime. It has even been the inspiration for much of the work of one of our most eminent contemporary architects, Lord Foster, one of our most eminent contemporary architects gained some inspiration from it, preparing plans of the building whilst a student in Cambridge. Hinxton Watermill

Hinxton Mill has a very special and timeless quality. All the old photographs and stories about the mill show that this was always a hard-working building and though times must have been tough in the past, we think it has never looked so wonderful as it does in the 21st century. Venue hire

Looking to hire a venue in Cambridge for a special occasion or event? We have some wonderful historic properties and countryside available. They’re the perfect setting for a range of events from birthday parties and BBQs to weddings, theatre, art exhibitions and meetings. Parties

Host a party or celebration at Wandlebury and we’ll give you exclusive use of our Stable Rooms and beautiful paddock.

The paddock is a large area of parkland with benches and log seating. Children can run around safely and play informal games, or you can have a BBQ, an open fire or put up a marquee.

The Stables are fully equipped with crockery, cutlery, fridge, microwave, tables & chairs and all the essentials for your party. There are also rooms for laying out food and indoor games.

  • Price for 4 hours, groups of < 30 people = £75 (£70 for members)
  • Price for longer or groups of > 30 people = please enquire
  • Bring a picnic – or book our BBQ for just £15.

 

Our fun children’s parties are led by experienced staff offering a range of entertaining activities including den building, pond dipping, archery and orienteering. You can also arrange to cook bread or marshmallows over an open fire.

  • Children’s party price for 1-2 hours tailored for different ages, from £8 per child including the hire of the Stables & paddock.

Weddings

Wandlebury is a beautiful location for couples planning their wedding. We do not have a wedding venue licence but we welcome informal ceremonies and wedding receptions. Our stable rooms and adjoining paddock provide a lovely and private setting for a marquee; the surrounding parkland is a stunning backdrop for photos of the happy couple and their guests.

In the past, couples have put up marquees, yurts, tepees and tents. The catering has been varied too from a full wedding breakfast to hog roasts and simple picnics.

Prices can start from around £1,350 but each wedding is costed on an individual basis. This figure includes hiring the stable rooms and paddock and includes time for setting up the day before / clearing away the day after.

BBQs

We have some fantastic BBQ areas that you can hire all year round – a perfect place for sizzling sausages and burning burgers. We are sorry but personal BBQs and fires are not permitted in the park.

Hire includes private space, picnic bench and BBQ for 4 hours. Just bring your own charcoal, tools and food.

  • Price for groups of < 20 people = £35 (£30 members)
  • Price for groups of > 20 people = please enquire
  • If you hire a BBQ as part of a Stable Room party booking the price is just £15

Corporate events

Do you need a quiet location away from the office for a meeting, workshop or brainstorm? Our Stable Rooms at Wandlebury can accommodate groups of up to 40 adults conference style or 20 people boardroom layout.

Lots of local companies also use our properties for team building events, staff picnics and parties. Costs vary depending on requirements and the property you want to host your event at.

Get in touch for more details and prices, there are reduced rates for corporate members of the charity.

Photo shoots and filming

Our properties provide the ideal backdrop for commercial photo shoots and the creation of films and videos. If you are looking for a historic building or a countryside setting for a creative project you are working on, we’d be delighted to discuss your requirements and make suggestions about the best locations at our individual sites.

Art exhibitions

The Leper Chapel is a magical space for art exhibitions and installations. Located just off Newmarket Road in Cambridge the building is an oasis of tranquillity along a busy thoroughfare. Regularly used by a wide range of artists and students, it provides an atmospheric location for a special event.

 

Music concerts, theatre performances, poetry and story telling events

Wandlebury Country Park and The Leper Chapel lend themselves wonderfully as venues for outdoor music concerts, theatrical performances and other cultural events. In the spring and summer Wandlebury is a great for staging concerts and plays – providing plenty of room for audiences to spread out on blankets and soak up some culture while enjoying a picnic. Wandlebury is also a magnificent venue for story telling. In the past, professional narrators have gathered groups of children together in the park to recount traditional tales of flower fairies and other meadow or woodland creatures. As the nights draw in, the Leper Chapel provides an atmospheric venue for ghost tales and stories from the past. Autumn and winter sees a number of events held in the shadows of the building – which lit by candlelight add drama, interest and excitement to performances of all kinds.

CambridgePPF has a close working relationship with the in situ Theatre Company but is always interested in hearing from other production groups looking for performance venues in and around Cambridge.
