About 2030 vision

A framework for debate - and action
Established in 2010, the project is speculating on a desirable possible future sub-regional form in twenty years time. Over two years, using a workshop format, it will explore ten topics influencing the sub-region's future. On completion, the outcomes will be synthesised into an easily understood integrated vision - forming the basis for informed debate and, hopefully, action.

Not a Cambridge centric project ...
Cambridge and its surrounding area are interdependent. Too often, however, it is the city that dominates discussions. 2030 vision seeks to break that mould. We need to consider how the city and its hinterland can relate better and to explore the implications. We welcome participants from all sections of the sub-regional community within the 25 mile radius around the city.

... and not another report
2030 vision is light on the ground. It is not our intention to generate yet another report on the future of the sub-region. Our summaries are concise and it is our intention to work with the media in disseminating conclusions. Discussions with local government suggest that our study should help fill the gap in their own, currently reduced, capacity to fulfil visioning responsibilities.

Broad in content, inclusive in participation
2030 vision is not the only group undertaking visioning studies. There are several others - concentrating on just one topic and limited in participation to those with a specific interest in the outcome. By contrast, 2030 vision is considering a range of topics and involves topic experts and members of the sub-region's academic, business, local government and residents communities.

A realistic exemplar for others
All involved in 2030 vision are working on a voluntary basis. We are fortunate enough to draw on some of Cambridge Past Present and Future's resources and to rent meeting spaces at an economical rate. And we are most grateful for the financial support - with no strings attached - of BAA Stansted. We hope that this economical format will act as an exemplar for other communities.
