This June brings an original production developed by in situ: director Bella Stewart. ‘the ghost in me – haunted selves, lost sounds and old futures’ is to be performed in the open air setting of Wandlebury Country Park.
What haunts our inner lives and personal histories? What is uncanny in the voice, or in our response to sound itself?
the ghost in me, explores the soundscapes of the haunted places inside us and around us, it evokes a parallel, ghostly world that mixes up the forgotten, the remembered and the once hoped-for.
We are all haunted, often willingly, by things from the past – our own and that of others – that we hold onto and which somehow help to make us who we are. There are memories, images, stories we carry around and they might be reassuring, mysterious or unsettling.
The uncanny and the ghostly seem to be intimately connected with sound. Think of ‘things that go bump in the night’. Perhaps sound can tell us about another version of the world just adjacent to our perception?
