Wonderful Wandlebury, CambridgePPF’s popular family history and archaeology day returns on Saturday 7 October.

28th Sep 2017

This year enjoy not only a huge range of hands-on activities for children, archaeology talks and guided historic trails, but also fantastic displays both on and off horseback by the Conroi Cavalry Team. This all takes place on Saturday 7 October: 12pm to 4.30pm – miss it, and miss out!

Wander around Wandlebury and try your hand at the variety of activities on offer at this popular fun-filled family history and archaeology day. Travel back to the Roman era with The Conroi Cavalry Team, see and discuss use of their weapons, equipment and military tactics, appreciate their fine horses, with riding displays at 1.30pm and 3.30pm. Have a go at traditional crafts and hands-on activities for children including face painting, weaving cord using lucets, very simple basket making, cooking over an open fire and making chainmail. Listen to stories from the Cambridge Storytellers, watch and use puppets with Vital Spark Theatre, test yourself at archery, use a slingshot, and check out beekeeping with the Cambridge Beekeepers. Be sure not to miss out on the presentations by local archaeologists too – with fascinating talks on Iron Age hillforts and landscape archaeology and metal detecting, as well as historic trails to follow. Naturally, it’s important to keep refreshed while you do all this – so there will be refreshments available to enjoy after wandering around the fascinating exhibitions and displays.

NB: Entry is free to this popular event but there will be a small charge for selected activities. There will also be opportunities to buy some items. No booking required.

Donations to help fund the upkeep of Wandlebury Park are always welcome.

The main events will take in the Stable Rooms and paddock, with historic trails leading further afield.

Cambridge Past, Present & Future are pleased to be working with Cambridge web designers ibe, who kindly donated the design of this site.
