CambridgePPF, the local charity that cares about the Cambridge area and its green landscapes, nominated The Central Conservation Area in Cambridge for an award as England’s Favourite Conservation Area and now it has been shortlisted with 17 other areas in England.

The scheme, set up to celebrate the 50^th anniversary of the first English Conservation Area is run by Civic Voice, the national charity for the civic movement. It will select people’s favourite conservation area from the shortlist and any member of the public can vote.  

There are over 10,000 conservation areas in England which reflect the rich built heritage of the nation. Nearly 250 conservation areas were nominated, demonstrating that people are proud of where they live. From this list 18 conservation areas were shortlisted and CambridgePPF’s nomination of the central Cambridge area was amongst them. 

CambridgePPF are encouraging everyone to get behind their nomination and vote for Cambridge. The charity says:

‘We made this nomination because of the unique mixture of ancient and new, of built and natural environment, because it is the first conservation area in the City and CambridgePPF was directly involved in its creation back in 1969.’
