Wandlebury Country Park

Wandlebury Scything Festival

Have a go at scything and watch experts in action.

Scything is a traditional rural skill that was used to cut hay. The skill is kept alive by enthusiasts and scything is still used to cut hay in small or difficult locations where using a tractor isn’t possible.

Back for a second year and expanded to include the revived Eastern Counties Scything Championships, the Wandlebury Scything Festival is becoming a premier scythe event.

From 10am-1pm there will be scything demonstrations and have-a-go sessions, so you can try your hand a scything.

Stay around for the afternoon to watch the scything championships and see how the experts do it. Last year’s winner cut a plot 5m x 5m in under two and a half minutes! The competitions will start around 2pm.

We also expect a return visit from the Grim Strimmer who will challenge a top scyther to a scything race.

Scything activities will be signposted from the car park.
