There is free parking for blue badge holders, a toilet for use by wheelchair users and immediately around the car park there are some hard surfaced roads, but this includes some small cobbles. Most of the 8km of paths in the park are unsurfaced but there are no steps or stiles and the majority of the park has gentle gradients.

There is an off-road mobility scooter available for free hire, which can be used by anyone who wants to enjoy the park but might need some help to do so. It is designed for use on unsurfaced paths, which is perfect for exploring the trails at Wandlebury. The purchase of the scooter was made possible by a generous donor and a grant from the CLA Charitable Trust. The ongoing costs are met by donations, so please consider helping if you can.

Blue badge holders can park in the main car park or use a disabled car park, which is reached by continuing along the driveway through the main car park. The disabled car park is closed earlier than the main car park, so if you are visiting in the late afternoon we recommend you use the main car park if you are able to do so.

Hiring the Scooter

The scooter is free to hire but you must book it in advance. This is to ensure that it is available and that a member of our team can get it ready for you.

Available every day of the week, for up to 2 hours:

1 Sept- 30 April available at 10am, Midday and 2pm.

    1 May – 31 Aug available at 10am, Midday, 2pm and 4pm.

Please book by calling 01223 243830 10am-4pm Mon-Fri, or by calling 07852 417526 10am-4pm on weekends. You cannot book by email or online.

You will need to tell us:

  • when you want to use the scooter
  • give us your name and a contact telephone number
  • advise us whether you have used it previously

We can also answer any questions that you might have.

The first time that you hire the scooter we will give you full training and also ask you to fill in a form. This will take up to 10 minutes so you should allow time for this.

You do not need to be accompanied to use the scooter if you are able to access and use the scooter safely on your own, however we recommend that you are accompanied by a friend/relative/carer the first time that you hire the scooter, just in case you need some help.

The first time that you hire the scooter you will need to bring documents that confirm your proof of identity and your address. This should include photo ID such as a passport or driver’s licence and something with your name and address.

When you book the scooter, we will discuss with you

  • whether you need any help to reach the scooter hire location or whether the scooter can be brought to the disabled parking area.
  • The usual location for collecting and returning the scooter is outside the information foyer at the park.
  • To find this, from the main car park continue up the hill along the surfaced drive and follow it. You will go around a bend, over a small bridge and past the disabled parking and enter a courtyard. Head to the corner of the large building on your right. The foyer faces out onto the park, so you will need to go around to the front of the building.
